Single Tooth Replacement in Cincinnati & Mason, OH

Missing a single tooth anywhere in the mouth can make it difficult to bite, chew, and eat food. Without a complete smile, you may feel self-conscious about your teeth and avoid laughing, eating, or smiling around others. If you are missing one or more teeth, our oral health experts at Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Specialists of Cincinnati are proud to offer a variety of tooth replacement options, including dental implants.

What Are Single Tooth Implants?

A dental implant consists of a post, abutment, and crown, and can replace a single tooth, multiple teeth, or your entire smile. Single tooth implants are used to replace a tooth anywhere in the mouth.

Dental implants are the only option for tooth restoration that fuses with the jaw bone. When teeth are missing, there is no root present to stimulate the jaw bone. The implant post acts just like a tooth root, stimulating the jaw bone to keep it healthy.

There are other options for replacing teeth, such as dentures and bridges, but they do not offer the same health and aesthetic benefits as dental implants. A fixed bridge requires support from adjacent teeth, which places additional pressure on the healthy teeth. Dentures and bridges do not fuse to the jaw bone, leaving you susceptible to bone loss that can occur when teeth are missing.

Advantages of Dental Implants

  • Every crown is custom made to match the size, shape, and color of your other natural teeth. The results look so natural, most people are unable to tell a dental implant apart from a natural tooth.
  • There are no removable parts or uncomfortable metal framework. Your implant is entirely self-supportive and stays in your mouth at all times.
  • Many patients qualify for dental implants as long as there is enough jaw bone to support the implant. If bone loss has occurred, we can use bone grafts to build new bone, helping to make implants an option for more patients.
  • Dentures and bridges must be replaced every few years due to wear and tear, but a dental implant is designed for long-term results. With proper care and maintenance, a dental implant can last a lifetime.
  • Dental implants are incredibly versatile and can restore your smile, whether you have experienced the loss of a single tooth or are struggling with many missing teeth.

Dental Implant Procedure

When you receive a single implant, your oral surgeon will make an incision in the gum tissue and insert the implant post into the jaw bone. Implant placement is performed using anesthesia or sedation. Many patients choose IV sedation for dental implant surgery, but there are other options available such as local anesthesia, laughing gas, and general anesthesia.

It will take several months for the implant to heal. After the post has fused with the jaw bone, your restorative dentist will attach the final crown to your implant post.
